The first ever Women’s Classic: A Sinai Health Golf and Wellness Experience raised over $300,000 in support of the Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health at Mount Sinai Hospital. Subsequent donations inspired by the event bring the overall fundraising total to an incredible $360,000 – all in support of women’s health research and care at Sinai Health.
Co-chaired by Janet Bomza and Alex Bronfman on June 15, this thoughtful event was more than a golf tournament. It brought together almost 100 women for a day full of connection, conversation and community. To see photos of the event, click here.
After enjoying a beautiful round of golf at the Oakdale Golf Course, the event featured a wellness marketplace comprised of women-owned and women-led businesses, and a thought-provoking panel discussion on women’s health and longevity.
Moderated by Dr. Melissa Hershberg, a best-selling author and the Medical Director at Wellness Haus, the panel featured Dr. Rola Hammoud, a Postdoctoral Research Scientist who specializes in nutrition, metabolism and anti-obesity therapeutics; Dr. Marie Christakis, a Gynaecologist and the Clinical Lead at Sinai Health’s Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health who specializes in menopause; and Dr. Lisa Watson, a Naturopathic Doctor who is an expert in women’s health and hormone balance.
The discussion covered the latest topics in women’s health – from GLP-1s and metabolic health to menopause treatments, brain health, dementia prevention and how supplements can be used to optimize daily energy. Each part of the conversation was packed with practical, actionable insights intended to help women protect their health as they age.
“One of the most rewarding parts of the day for us was seeing so many women show up not only for the cause, but for each other,” say Janet and Alex, Event Co-Chairs. “It was inspiring to see women come together not only to enjoy the experience, but to engage in discussions that matter. We are already looking forward to next year and hope to continue building this community and expanding its impact.”
All funds raised by The Women’s Classic will go towards the Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health – which is committed to transforming the way women receive care throughout their lifetimes by investing in research, education and improved care pathways. Events like this play an essential role in making this work possible, providing the resources needed to fuel the next wave of women’s health breakthroughs.
We are deeply grateful to the participants, sponsors, speakers, and especially to Janet and Alex for making this event an incredible success.
